Experience Mexico

Puerto School offers optional workshops in salsa dancing, Oaxacan style cooking, local artisanry and surfing are available. These workshops, taught entirely in Spanish (except for surfing which can be taught in either Spanish or English), help to immerse students in the language within a context-rich, low-pressure environment. They reinforce language acquisition and make learning fun.

Salsa Dance Lessons

Come learn to move to the Latin rhythms. Classes are generally taught in Spanish but can be done in English upon request (Same cost as Spanish classes). $20 USD per hour for private lessons and $15 USD per hour per person for group lessons (can't guarantee group lessons).

Local Art and jewellery Making Classes

Work with local artists to learn how to paint, draw, and sculpt, and make your own jewelry.

Oaxacan Cooking Classes

Learn to make tortillas, tamales, salsas, mole, pozole and/or other Mexican favorites the old fashioned way. Cooking classes are taught entirely in Spanish and you can bring home the fruits of your labor to enjoy or you can share them with the family of the teacher (Same cost as Spanish classes plus the cost of the food and a $5 U.S. shopping fee). $20 USD per hour for private lessons and $15 USD per hour per person for group lessons (can't guarantee group lessons) + $5 transportation fee and cost of food for each class. (We pay a 100 pesos transportation fee to the teacher).

Pre Hispanic Ruins in Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita

Visit pre-hispanic ruins and stroll through first growth coastal forests. We will also and visit the town square and market of Huatulco and view and swim at various beaches including Mazunte, Zipolite, San Agustinillo, Puerto Angelito. This is a full day tour that lasts 10-12 hours and costs $210 U.S. for the first person and $30 U.S. per additional person (meals not included).

National Turtle Museum

Visit an aquarium with various types of sea turtles in various phases of their lifespan and learn many interesting details about them. See the sea turtle reproduction area with baby turtles waiting to be released. We will also visit and swim at various beaches including Mazunte, Zipolite, San Agustinillo and Puerto Angelito. This is a full day tour that lasts approximately 8 hours and costs $165 U.S. for the first person and $30 U.S. per additional person (meals not included).

Orientation Tour

We provide orientation tours of Puerto Escondido and the surrounding area to give newcomers an overview of the area highlights and the services available. This tour is a great way to begin your stay. It gives you an idea of the places you might want to visit again to spend more time. It also provides you an overview of the services that will facilitate your life while you are here in Puerto Escondido.

Full day and half-day tours available. Half-day tours cost $65 U.S. for one or two people plus $10 U.S. for each additional person. Full day tours cost $120 U.S. for one or two people plus $20 U.S. for each additional person. Orientation tours can be modified to fit your particular needs.

Lagoon Tour

In this true eco-tour you will visit an iguana, turtle and crocodile reproduction area and see sea turtle eggs in incubation. Then visit a lagoon filled with thousands of cacophonous birds, Storks, Egrets, and the famous pink Roseate Spoonbills. Visitors see crocodiles in the wild. This is a 100% eco-friendly tour and the majority of your money goes towards replenishing and guarding this natural habitat and educating the public of the benefits of protecting the environment. (The tour is approximately 3 hours long and costs $65 U.S. for the first person and $20 U.S. per additional person.)

Snorkeling/skin diving Tours

We offer 3 snorkeling tours to fit your level of experience, the conditions and your taste for adventure.

Snorkeling at local beaches. In this ½ day tour we take you to the best local beach(s) for the conditions of the day and your level of experience (beginner to intermediate) (The tour is approximately 3 hours long and costs $75 U.S. for the first 2 people and $20 U.S. per additional person.)

Snorkeling at semi local beaches. In this full day tour we go to the best snorkeling area in the nearby coast for the conditions and your level of experience. For beginners, or when there is a lot of wave action, we visit a bay that always has good conditions for snorkeling. For intermediates (or beginners when there is not much wave action) we visit a beach with coral reefs. The coral of this beach attracts many tropical fish. We will also visit and swim at various beaches including Mazunte, Zipolite, San Agustinillo and Puerto Angelito. This is a full day tour that lasts approximately 8 hours and costs $160 U.S. for the first two people and $20 U.S. per additional person (meals not included).

Snorkeling in deep water with big fish & sharks This tour is for experienced divers or strong swimmers that like adventure. This beach has offshore rock formations with fissures and caves 3+ meters (10+ feet) under the water. These fissures and caves often lodge large fish that occasionally attract large but docile bull sharks to the area (divers and spear fishermen frequent the area for years but there have been no known attacks). This is a ½ day trip that costs $90 U.S. for one or two people. $20 U.S. per additional person beyond the initial two.

Waterfall Trek

Drive up into the mountains, visit a small village and hike or bike to a beautiful waterfall. (The tour to the waterfall is a full day and costs $150 U.S. for the first two people and $20 U.S. per additional person )( *Bike rentals not included.)

Trek to Local Ruins

Visit a small coastal village and hike to an un-excavated site where people lived thousands of years ago. You will see a large stone carved into the shape of the god Quetzalcoatl, the plumed feathered serpent. This trip is half a day and costs $100 U.S. for the first two people and $10 U.S. per additional person).

Chacahua Lagoon National Park and Fishing Village

Tour a large lagoon network and visit a small isolated fishing village with people of mixed indigenous and African descent located where the lagoon opens to the sea. See birds and crocodiles. This is a full day tour that costs $210 U.S. for first one or 2 people and an additional $20 U.S. per additional person.
